WELCOME
TO YOUR 50th Reunion
|
September 17 Less than a week to go! This newsletter will review some last minute details. This week, our committee met for the last time... before the reunion. We are down to the last items and now eagerly await the arrival of the classmates, spouses and guests. Our goals have been exceeded and those of you who can come will be rewarded with enjoyable events while seeing many old friends and classmates. This will be the last newsletter before the reunion. (After the reunion, the editor is leaving town... and taking a vacation!) The website will still be active and have the most up to date information.
Some questions always come up. Be sure and check the website and this newsletter for answers. Two local contacts are listed below to use during the reunion.
Class of 1960 Website:

East High Alumni Website
www.ancientangels.com
The Reservation list has been updated. If you have sent a reservation in and don't see your name, please contact our Treasurer, Iretta Jackson Bell immediately. She will contact you. Please do not send any more checks by mail. If you can come, email Iretta and tell her, but bring your check to the registration table. We need to know you have paid before issuing a name tag for the event. At each event will be a "Who Is Here" list and a "Message" board. We don't want anyone to miss someone they planned to see.
In this newsletter, there is information on activities in and around Denver plus a list of recommended restaurants in the Cherry Creek area. Also, links to general websites that provide unlimited resources.
The Memory Book is outstanding! We have had a sneak preview and are pleased with how it turned out. Information for ordering, the mailing and book distribution at the reunion is included. If you want to order the CD from the 78 record which was produced in the senior year entitled "A Year to Remember - East High School 1959-1960" click on the link provided below.
A videographer from Richard Raines Video Productions will be here filming during the three events of the reunions. The company will send information later on how to purchase a copy. For those who can't come... and those who do... and want a video of the happenings, it should be a great option. This company does many reunions throughout the United States and recently taped the 50th reunions for South and North High School's 50th reunions. The cost will be $29.95 plus tax and shipping.
Our photographer, Judy Judd Soden, will be taking pictures throughout the reunion and will post her pictures to be viewed and/or purchased on the website Shutterfly. If you want to send reunion photos for the website, email them to Sandy sdvines@gmail.com and she will forward them to our Web Master, Richard Smith who will put them on our website. We will have additional information links for all photography options.
We have been watching the forecasts very carefully. As you know, Colorado's weather can be fickle. On September 17th, 2000, there was a major snowstorm with two feet of snow, but we are happy to report the forecast looks good! It will be a great fall weekend in Colorado. The prediction is for the low 80's during the day but cooler evenings, so be prepared. It is going to be perfect. See you soon!

There are 275 bio's and other categories: East's history, acknowledgements, list of contributors, directory of classmates, an entire section donated to "In Memory Of", exceptional pictures of East High School, list of those "still missing", pictures from the 45th reunion, memorabilia including a copy of the Tower of Strength card, a Spotlight, etc., "Who is in my Zip?" and a list of the reunion committee. The co-editors - Iretta Bell and Cynthia Riebeth with the help of Sandy Vines have created a special and lasting memento. Our company, Photocraft in Boulder, CO is busy at work getting the copies printed and ready for the reunion.
For those coming to the reunion, there will be an early pickup on FRIDAY, September 24th from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at 2990 E. 17th Street. This is a highrise condominium building - 2 blocks east of East High School across from City Park. There is a large, yellow wrought iron sculpture in front of the Tower. You can park on 17th or nearby and come to the first floor community room and pick up your Memory Book if you want to during these times only.
If you are unable to get your book early, we will distribute them after 9:00 at the Friday night party. Those not picking up their books early or coming on Friday evening will be able to pick them up on Saturday at East or at the Saturday night party at Pinehurst. We will have some extra copies for sale, but those who have ordered are guaranteed a copy. Use the reply card at the end of the newsletter if you still want to order one and we will try to accommodate you.
For those who are not coming, we will be mailing your copy to you as soon as possible after the reunion. If your address has changed, you need to let us know immediately.
Thank You! |

The lettering is big, bold and easy to read. Be aware that most people will be receiving their name tags on Friday evening, so we are working hard to make the check in go as quickly as possible.

Saturday Night Gala- Chairmen Sheila Nasbarg Rudofsky, Joan Harcourt McWilliams, Ann Sullivan Kennedy. Music: Alan Davis
The "LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL" gala at Pinehurst Country Club, 6255 W. Quincy Avenue, 303 985-1551 includes cocktails, dinner, program and dancing. Last year's East High Class of 1959 highly recommended this venue. Attire - no jeans or denim - coats suggested for men, but ties optional; the women - cocktail casual...black dress, pant suit etc. Cash bar. An ample buffet is planned, a special dessert - compliments of the Chairwoman Sheila Nasbarg Rudofsky and her husband, Gerard; Marla Bullock Kauerz, Jim Riesberg and Paul Bell-Tull share the MC role for a short and lively program, soft background and danceable music according to music chairman, Alan Davis; a gorgeous view of the Rocky Mountains (should be a beautiful sunset) from the expansive windows on the west, room to move around and talk with people as there will be no assigned seating. The club is in southwest Denver about 20 minutes from the Cherry Creek area. Maps for travel will be available at the check in counter Friday night and Saturday noon at East. It will be a fine finale to what promises to be a grand reunion weekend.

Denver Attractions
If you are coming from out of town (or have guests staying with you), there are many options to consider that might make your trip more enjoyable. On Sunday afternoon, the Denver Broncos play Indianapolis and the Colorado Rockies are trying to give Coloradoans heart failure again as they have their September surge and a game with San Francisco. The fabulous King Tut exhibit (which started in Atlanta in 2009) is at the Denver Art Museum. The exhibit includes over 50 objects from the Egyptian King's tomb and has been well received.
You might go "antiquing" on Broadway, gaming in Black Hawk and Central City, take a tour of the Mint, Coors, Railroad Museum, or a nostalgic trip to Red Rocks (remember those concerts?). The new Asian Tropics Exhibit at the Denver Zoo which will cover ten acres and be world renown is in construction now. The Botanical Gardens (south of East at 1005 York Street ) have just completed a major renovation, the parking is excellent and should be ablaze with color. The Henry Moore sculpture exhibit has received an accolade of cheers and is exceptional. Have just a few hours? Hop the 16th Street Mall bus or walk or shop in Lodo (lower downtown Denver).
All of these things plus many more options make Denver what it is today. Thanks to Toby Grossman Beamguard who has put all of this information together including the following list of recommended restaurants in the Cherry Creek area. Here are a couple websites: www.visitDenver.com and www.Denver365.com to peruse also.

A Year to Remember - East High School 1959 -1960
Do you remember 78 rpm records? Did you remember that one was made recording some of the memorable moments and sounds of our Senior year? Joan Harcourt McWilliams had her copy made into a quality CD which will take you back to the actual sounds of a pep assembly, the soft-shoe dance done by Coaches Weimar and Browning, the Christmas assembly, the Code Assembly, a basketball game, an incredible act from the All-School Show, the Concert Band and the Concert Orchestra and other notable events of our special experiences now fifty years ago. It is almost guaranteed to make you laugh and cry a bit and it will put you back into a time now long gone. The jewel-case includes a wonderful photo of East High. The CD's can be ordered for $10 each. See the order form included below. Just click on the link and complete the order form. Send your check made out to East High Class of 1960.
